Overdraft Protection is an open-end line of credit that kicks in at the moment that your checking account becomes overdrawn.

There are two main advantages to this. First, it protects you against the embarassment and fees from accidentally bouncing a check. Second, it gives you the added convenience of an individual line of credit you can use simply by writing a check.
